Since its humble beginnings as a university-based chamber ensemble (Univ of the Phil. Madrigal Singers) to its rise to be one of the world's best choirs, the MADZ has consistently won the top prizes in the prestigious choral competitions for the last 42 years.
The group's trademark performance stance, singing in a semi-circle without a conductor, is instantly recognizable. Their highly eclectic repertoire spans the breadth and length of vocal music: from Rennaissance madrigals to the avant-garde, from Filipino and int'l folk songs to the latest pop hit, even from the most cerebral choral masterpieces to the most humorous of novelty numbers.
Here are human beings in harmony with themselves and one with what they are doing; this sincerity and fervor is what is so touching, and at times, unsettling. - Marian Leschik, Wunstork, 2000
